The Nomad is Here!
Feb 10
This story is about a new addition to the Stranger Range - The Nomad. Nick has been developing the design for about a year and we’re ready to give it a birth in the Range, but that takes a bit of time so here it is for you to check out. It has a retro plan shape with some modifications that make it really versatile. The board shown here is 6’ 7” long and 19 3/4” wide. It’s made with 6 oz Carbon Fibre and epoxy resin that makes it light and very strong.
As the name suggests, it is designed for travelling. It will perform brilliantly in the widest range of surf and because it is made of carbon fibre and epoxy it is going to take a huge hit to break. The board in these shots is mine. I was going overseas for awhile and didn’t want to be carting a quiver of boards with me. Dings can always be repaired well enough to get back in the water just about anywhere, but if you snap your board in half you’re screwed; just imagine doing that on your first day of a trip! That’s why we went for the Carbon Fibre. After surfing in Japan and Portugal and dragging the board around the UK and Hong Kong I returned home without a single ding.
The board performed really well in surf ranging from clean 2 foot in Japan (check how fast the thing is moving in such small surf!) to powerful double overhead waves in Portugal. The dark colour means you have to keep it out of direct sun or you'll loose your wax really quick. They can be made a lighter colour but you will lose that wicked Carbon Fibre pattern.
