Secrets of the Island

Emily Davey has produced a really classy piece of work with her oral history of surfing in Tasmania - Secrets of the Island. It's a 200 page, full colour, glossy production based around interviews with thirty-three of Tassie’s state champions, pioneers and other surfing legends - including Nick Stranger.

As Emily says, "Read about break discoveries, shark scares and memorable surfs and see epic never before published photos from the ‘50s to recent Shipstern slaughters".

The book also has a section on Shipstern Bluff, with brilliant photographs from Stuart Gibson and Andy Chisholm.

By February 1 you will be able to go to our Stuff page and read a sample section - the interview with Nick! - and even order it through our secure online facility if you like.

While I reckon every serious surfer in Tassie should have one of these on their bookshelf, it will also be of interest to surfers everywhere. Who doesn't like a good surf story? This time told by surfers living on a wild and beautiful island at the bottom of the world!
